Today's design has become simpler and harder.

The era has brought graphic design from paper to more scenes, and changes in technology, culture and social environment are constantly extending the definition of design. The current design focuses more on new ways of thinking about proposals, or on value creation in a broader sense. The discussion about the part of "performance" in graphic design has become blurred. At this node, we invited three designers to plan this exhibition with the theme of "Dimensions of Performance".

The establishment of the way of expression often means the formation of the designer's own concept and style. In the works of Yui Takada, Kazuki Kobayashi, and Toshi Sasaki, you can see a lot of their observations and reflections on the most ordinary daily scenery, and it is their performance that carries this perception.
The opportunity for the exhibition came from an immature documentary filming plan at the beginning of the year. In addition to the appearance of the work, I wanted to borrow in-depth materials to express another Japanese design moment. We have selected some Japanese designers with very personal styles, and communicated their daily observations, thoughts and the connection between their works through interviews and records of "them" outside of the works. In this process, we clearly realized that their unique performance may be closely related to the way they feel and observe life. This exhibition is just an attempt to lift a corner of the curtain. I hope everyone can look at them through this small window, and then take a look at the commonplace in the life world we live in.
Yui Takada's performance starts from the perspective of capturing and observing. His capture is not only embodied in the discovery of the beauty hidden in the ordinary to nearly trivial things in life, but also in his examination and thinking of the relationship between himself and the object of observation. This exhibition will display Takada Yui’s new work "TOWER" and the cut-and-patch newspaper "trimming sports newspapers" series. The tower is the first theme that appears in Takada Yui’s work. During the exhibition, you can not only experience Takada Yui’s observation perspective, but also see his latest attempt to transform the plane into a body and then expand it into the space to make the display itself It has also become an integral part of the work.
Kobayashi's performance is that his body talks to the world through ink and paper. As a young designer born in the 90s who grew up with the Internet and information technology, he rarely insisted on the production method of scanning manuscripts after hand-painting. You can read the influence of the classic Swiss graphic style in his modeling, as well as his inheritance and study from Japanese traditional arts and crafts. Through the posters and original manuscripts of the new work "Between black & white-18ANIMALI" exhibited this time, you can not only feel his extreme control over graphic details, but also glimpse his other creative perspective: reconstructing classics and traditions.
Sasaki's performance is to find a new balance in the world of inorganic graphics through constant configuration and adjustment. Most of the images appearing in his self-produced works come from his aimless thinking while walking. In this exhibition, in addition to the new works of the "HUM Human N" series, Sasaki also turned the car series he has insisted on creating for a long time into an exhibition space titled "Traffic Congestion in Shanghai", which is different from the huge scale of paper creation. Sense and color performance, allowing visitors to directly experience the Sasaki-style pavement observation.
